All
of us have certain abilities. All of us have certain limitations. For example,
if you asked me to tear out some cabinets in your kitchen, I have the ability
to accomplish that. However, if you
asked me to build you a piano, that goes past my ability. Sadly, you would be
without music in your life if you are depending on me for a piano.
God
doesn’t have limitations like we do. God is limitless in his power. God is God.
God is transcendent. God has all ability.
God is able.
In
his sermon entitled, “God is Able”, Martin Luther King Jr. said this:
"At the center of the
Christian faith is the conviction that there is a God of power who is able to
do exceedingly abundant things in nature and in history. This conviction is
stressed over and over again in the Old and New Testaments. The God whom we worship
is not a weak and incompetent God. God is able to beat back gigantic waves of
opposition and to bring low prodigious mountains of evil. This ringing
testimony of the Christian faith is that God is able."
I
believe that, don’t you? The word able comes from the Greek word dunamai. God
is powerfully able. God explodes with ability.
The Hebrew-Greek lexicon defines it like this: to be able or possible,
to be of power. God can make the impossible, possible.
What
in your life seems impossible right now? God can make it possible because he is
able!
Allow
these “God is able” verses to encourage you today.
Daniel
3:17 – (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) said, “If we are thrown into this
blazing furnace, the God we serve is
able to save us from it, and he will
rescue us from your hand, O king.”
Romans 16:25 – Now to him who is able to establish
you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ…be glory forever
AMEN.
2
Corinthians 9:8 – And God is able to
make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all
that you need, you will abound in every good work.
Ephesians
3: 20 – Now to him who is able to do
immeasurably more than all we ask of imagine, according to his power that
is at work with in us.
2
Timothy 1:12 – I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have
entrusted to him for that day.
Hebrews
2:18 – Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Jude
24-25 – To him who is able to keep you
from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault
and with great joy to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and
authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!
AMEN.
Revelation
5:5 – then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. See, the Lion of the
tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.
God
has no limitations. God is powerfully able. What do you need to trust to his awesome
ability today?
