God does not airbrush us

I think we all know that most magazine photos of people have been airbrushed. Airbrushing covers up all the imperfections and makes one look perfect. And then, we see that perfection and look in the mirror and feel inferior.

I’ve got some good news for you. God doesn’t airbrush anyone. He loves us and uses us with all of our imperfections.
Do you think God can’t use you? Do you think you’re not good enough? Do you think your past disqualifies you to serve God? THINK AGAIN!

Look at this list of people that God used in the Bible. Warning: this list is not airbrushed.

Moses had anger issues and stuttered.

David was too young. His armor didn’t fit. He had an affair.

Timothy had ulcers. He was too timid.

Hosea’s wife was a prostitute.

John Mark was homesick and rejected by Paul.

Jacob was a liar.

Peter denied Jesus.

Jonah ran from God.

Abraham was too old.

Sarah laughed at God.

Thomas doubted.

Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.

Elijah was burned out.

John the Baptist was a social outcast.

Martha was stressed out about everything.

Mary (Martha’s sister) was labeled lazy.

Noah got drunk.

Naomi was a widow.

Matthew was a tax collector; a cheater; a traitor.

Samson slept with a prostitute.

Peter and Paul had short fuses.

This list can go on and on. Why do so many of the characters in the Bible have so many serious flaws? Because all God has to work with are imperfect people. All the perfect people are in heaven. The talent pool is very thin when it comes to perfection. God works with sinners because that’s all He has to work with.
So, if you think you need airbrushing before God can use you; think again.
God takes us just like we are and does some incredible things through us!

For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show this all surpassing power is from God and not us.
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
