How about those Navy Seal Snipers who freed Captain Philips? It didn’t slip my notice that Captain Philips was set free on Easter Sunday. Ironic, huh? These three unnamed Navy Seals have my utmost respect. What a feat!
These guys made these shots in darkness, while moving. Not only were the targets bobbing in the water, the ship that the snipers were aboard was moving as well. All of this took place from about 100 feet. They exhibited tremendous patience because they had been looking through the scope for hours to get the perfect shot. They all fired simultaneously and all hit their targets without harming the hostage.
Not only should we be impressed with these three men, we should equally be impressed with their training.
Thinking about the training these men go through, what kind of civilian jobs would they want to return to? A desk job would probably be boring to these types. On another level, what kind of church ministries would be best suited for them? God uses our talents and skills for His glory, right? So what kind of ministries would a Navy Seal sniper be involved in?
Greeting Ministry? – It might be nice to come into church and get a heart- felt “Welcome Aboard!” Their presence could add to the security of the service as well. We would have to probably tolerate the occasional “pat down”.
Ushering Ministry? – Creating more seats would be no problem for these guys. I’m sure offerings would increase. Just imagine that the bags are being passed and someone puts in a dollar, and a Navy Seal is giving them“the look”. And remember, they are patient, they could stare at you for a long time.
Children's Ministry? – Picture this: the toddlers are finishing up their coloring pages when Lieutenant Smith says, “Put your pages away and make your way to the playground…Move it, Move it, Move it! I said NOW little sailor!”
Listening to Confession Ministry? – This might be the best fit for these men. They are REALLY good at keeping secrets. Your confession would be safe with them, even if they are tortured.
Worship Team Ministry? – They might bring new and creative ways of getting us to raise our hands and voices.
All kidding aside; these guys are heroes. And they set a captive free on Easter Sunday. Does that remind you of Someone else? To Him be all the glory.
Free indeed,
Pastor Tim
