Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)
Christmas is God with us. What a great message for us to consider. Isaiah first prophesied these words to King Ahaz who was going through a very fearful time in his life. Facing armies that he could not overpower his heart was shaken. God gave him the reassurance of His presence. What more could anyone want than the presence of God? God with me means God's power is with me. It means God's love is with me. It means God's faithfulness is with me. Don't forget that God is with you!
Jesus said, "I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). We should stand in awe everyday that God is with us and will never leave us. But it doesn't stop there. Not only is God with us, He is IN us!
Let these words from Colossians 1:27 sink into your soul - "To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Christ, who is God, is living in our hearts bringing us power and comfort and joy and healing. The God who became flesh and was born in a manger, came to live in me! But there's more. Not only is God in us but God is FOR us. If God is for me, who can be against me? (Romans 8:31). This should give me super confidence in every situation and every struggle of life. God is for me.
Most people don't realize that this promise of God being with us is repeated in Isaiah 8. This is a prophecy of Isaiah targeted at the enemies of God's people. Verses 8-10 read, "and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck. Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land, O Immanuel!” Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us."
I love it! People may devise plans against you. The enemy may surround you. But God's people do not need to be afraid because our God is with us! The Message read, " All your talk is mere talk, empty words. Because when all is said and done the last word is Immanuel. our God is with us."
Let this great Christmas promise strengthen you everyday. Let it be the first and last word in your life. God is for me. God is in me. God is with me. Praise His Name!
