A few weeks ago Pam and I were enjoying dinner with another couple in a restaurant. We looked across the restaurant and saw another couple from our church enjoying dinner as well. We waved and smiled and they waved back and smiled and we continued eating dinner. When we finished eating, the check never came. I asked our waitress for the check and she said, "Your meal has been taken care of." I looked at the other couple we were dining with and they were just as surprised as me. I knew we didn't have a special groupon coupon. The waitress went on to explain, "Someone sitting over there took care of your meals and the tip. They must really like you."
The other couple from the church picked up our tab. What a blessing. Now, I'm not writing this to encourage all of you, who see me in a restaurant, to pick up my tab. I'm writing this to illustrate how wonderful the grace of God is. God's grace says, "I've picked up the tab. I've taken care of everything. Accept it. Believe it. Enjoy it. It's a declared fact so live in it.
When Paul said his good bye to the Ephesian Elders he said this to them, "I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace." Paul made it clear that his life ambition was to tell others how great, how marvelous, how unbelievable the grace of God is. I think all of us can make it our aim to complete the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. We testify to His grace by what we do and what we say.
Here are some great quotes about God's grace.
"The grace of God is outrageous. By normal human reason, it doesn't make any sense." Leith Anderson
"Thank God, He does not measure grace out in teaspoons." Amy Carmichael
"You don't earn grace, and you don't deserve grace; you simply receive it as God's loving gift and then share it with others." Warren Wiersbe
"Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected." Jonathan Edwards
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
Thank God for His grace. Accept it. Believe it. Live in it. Enjoy it. Testify to it. What amazing kindness God has showed us - He picked up our tab!
