Has anyone noticed we're in an election year? You can't help but notice, right? I want to share with you four things that all of us in the church can commit to. Four things that I believe we can all agree on. We may not agree on policies and politicians, but I know we can agree on these four basic principles.
1. Everyone can pray. This is what we are commanded to do in Scripture. "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
2. Everyone can vote. We can all agree to be good citizens. We can pay careful attention. We can use our Bible as a voting guide. We can all go to the polls. By the way, you have until Oct. 22 to register to vote. You can do it online at : https://rtv.sos.ca.gov/elections/register-to-vote/
3. Everyone can be kind. It seems that politics can bring out the worst in people. So, as you are praying, remember to ask God to give you extra kindness this election year.
4. Everyone can remember that we are a church and not a convention. What does that mean? It means that we have God-fearing, Spirit-filled people from all parties in our congregation. It means that anyone from any political spectrum is welcome to come to EVC and learn more about Jesus.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD - Psalm 33:12
