Christian Bragging

Two boys were bragging about their fathers. One said, "My dad makes more money than your dad."
The other replied, "My Dad is stronger than your dad."
The other countered, "My dad is smarter than your dad."
Not to be outdone the other boy boasted, "Oh yeah, my dad can beat up your dad."
The other boy was quick to reply, "That’s nothing, my mom can beat up my dad!"
Bragging can be a futile activity. However, the Bible tells us there is Someone we should brag about.  Soak in these words from Jeremiah 9:23 - 24:
This is what the LORD says: Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, declares the LORD.
We are not to boast in our own wisdom, our own strength or our own possessions. Our bragging should be in the Lord. Jeremiah gives us 4 ways we should brag about the Lord.
1) Brag that you know and understand the Lord. Our boasting is that God has revealed Himself to us in the word. He made it possible for us to know Him through Jesus Christ.

2) Brag that the Lord operates with kindness. The Hebrew word for kindness is so rich it takes several English words to convey it…covenant loyalty, steadfast love, unfailing devotion and merciful affection.  Kindness is the love of God expressed through Jesus Christ in the eternal covenant of God’s grace.  God’s kindness is something to brag about!

3) Brag that the Lord exercises justice on earth. God is known for His justice. God loves justice.  Psalm 9:16 - The Lord is known by his acts of justice.  Psalm 11:7 - For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice, the upright will see his face.

4) Brag that the Lord is righteous. In the righteous life of Christ, God's kindness and justice embrace. And in this incredible sacrifice, God imputed His righteousness to you and I.  That's worth bragging about.

The greatest thing in life is the God given ability to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I'm going to brag about that, how about you?
