Olympic Seed Sowing

One day Jesus told a story illustrating how the kingdom of God grows. This is what he said, "Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."  (Mark 4:3-8).
Opening ceremonies for the summer Olympics start Friday night in London. There are 205 nations being represented in this year's Olympic games. While the athletes are gearing up for their events, churches in London have been gearing up to sow some Gospel seeds.  Roughly 500,000 people from all over the world are expected to visit London for the Olympics. International ministry organizations see the premier sporting event as a prime opportunity to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through literature and personal witnessing with both spectators and Olympic athletes. Visitors to the 2012 Games will be able to experience almost 700 free performances by Christian musicians, dancers and visual artists from over 30 nations. One of the Christian organizations helping to coordinate all this seed sowing is More Than Gold. The organization works with thousands of churches and agencies coordinating mission outreach efforts.
This is just one organization and one example of the massive outreach going on in London during the Olympic Games.
Will you be praying that some seed will fall on good ground? Will you pray that God's kingdom will grow as God's people share the Good News of Jesus Christ? Let's be praying for all the Christian athletes to not only run a good race but to raise the standard of Jesus Christ. The world has come to London. It's time to sow some seeds.
