2 Corinthians 10:1-6 - The Weapons of our Warfare
By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” when away! 2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.
When we face opposition in our life we have two choices: 1) take matters into our own hands, or 2) obey God's Word.
How do we obey God when we are facing opposition? Three ways from our text.
1. We walk in meekness. - We wage war by a humble lifestyle. The key to meekness is to first submit your life to God. James 4:7 - Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
2. We war by ministering. We wage war by serving others. Our weapons are not of this world. They are powerful. The weapon of living in the light of the Gospel. The weapons of grace, forgiveness, truth, wisdom, peace, mercy...all which come from Christ!
3. We work through a mindset. We wage war by thinking correctly. We take captive every thought making it obedient to Christ. How can we practice this? Starve your mind of the disobedient thoughts. Feed your mind the word of God. Ask God to strengthen you to have the mind of Christ. Find a friend who you can report in to. Someone you trust that will hold you accountable.
Psalm 144:1-2 - Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.
2 He is my loving God and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.
