I think the greatest compliment to Mom's is given by the Lord Himself in Isaiah 66:12-13,
Jesus incorporates the same metaphor when he says, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." (Matthew 23:37). The image of love and protection is graphic.
A few other verses that show us the mother heart of God:
Isaiah 46: 3 - "Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, yo whom I have upheld since you were conceived and have carried since your birth."
Isaiah 49:15 - "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has born? Though she may forget, I will not forget you."
We know God is our Father. There is no doubt about that. But when it comes to the tenderness and love of God, he chooses a loving mother to give us handles to understand that. What a great compliment to Mom's everywhere.
Thank you Mom. But more than that - thank you God!
"For this is what the Lord says: 'I will extend peace to her like a river and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."God will comfort us as a mother comforts her child. I see this often with little babies. They start crying and several people will try to comfort them: Dad, uncle, even grandma, but only mom can really comfort their little baby. That is exactly the picture that God wants us to have concerning his comfort. Only God can really soothe our soul. God loves us, comforts us, nourishes us and dandles us. I had to look up the word dan·dle - to move a baby lightly up and down, as on ones knee, to pet and pamper. Whoa. God even plays "ride a little horsey" with us! What a God.
