But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
Galatians 4: 4-5
God is never late. God is never early. God is always right on time. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem it was the perfect time. Paul states it was the fullness of time. His birth was not subject to fate. It was under the Divine Supervision of God Almighty. Everything was in place, everything was right, the timing of Jesus birth was impeccable.
I wonder if Joseph and Mary thought God's timing was impeccable or inconvenient? Think about these factors: their marriage was not yet consummated. The birth of their baby would take place in an occupied territory. A major census would totally disrupt all of their plans - if they had any. They would have to travel to a strange town and their baby would be born there. They would have to deal with totally inadequate housing for the birth of a baby. All of these factors lead me to believe that Joseph and Mary may not have thought it was the best time for a baby to born.
When we just look at one little piece of the puzzle, it's hard to see the big picture. God sees the big picture and we have to trust Him and His timing!
Ecclesiastes 3 talks about the details of God's timing. In verse 11 we read, "God has made everything beautiful in its time." God is aware of the moments of our life, the details, and will always be on time, even if all the circumstance of our life say something different. God has impeccable timing. Do you believe that? Will you trust God's timing in the details of your life?
There are so many layers to the Christmas story. One of those layers would teach us that God has a sovereign timing over our lives. He won't be late or early. He will always be on time. Hang on. Keep trusting. Don't panic. Some gifts are worth waiting for.
