Last Sunday I preached from 2 Corinthians 4:7, "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." I mentioned that a clay pot is baked dirt and some of us are half-baked. I also made reference to the children's song, I believe the title is "I'm a little teapot". As I stated in the sermon, we should be teaching our children, "I'm a little clay pot". I encouraged someone to re-write the song. Our pre-school director, Corrina took the challenge seriously. So here's the new and improved version.
I'm a little clay pot, God made me,
Filled with His treasure for the world to see.
When God gives me power
it makes me shout,
Break me open and pour me out.
Way to go Corrina!
I also referenced the 7 elements of the Confessing Church, written by John Barnett. These are the 7 divine works of God that makes guilty sinners ready for God's presence and power. We should confess these things consistently.
1) I am forgiven - God has removed my debt.
2) I am justified - God has changed my state.
3) I am regenerated - God has transformed my heart.
4) I am reconciled - God has become my friend.
5) I am adopted - God has changed my family.
6) I am redeemed - God has changed my ownership.
7) I am sanctified - God has changed my behavior.
What a treasure we have in these jars of clay!
