I've been turning 50 for 30 days now, thanks to my wife. She has been blessing me everyday and reminding me that I will soon turn (according to "they") forty. Everyday I've been waking up to a new surprise. Some big. Some small, but very thoughtful. All filled with love.
This week's surprises were over the top! On Tuesday, I woke up to discover that I was playing golf at Pebble Beach! The picture above is #17 at Pebble, which I parred. I shot a 91, which is really an 81 with this new scoring system that is similar to the new aging system.
Thursday night, my surprise was the SF Giants vs the Philadelphia Phillies. GIANTS WON!! The Giants turned 50 two years ago. So I believe they are really 42. When they are at home they play like they are 40. At away games they play like they are 60.
Turning 50 has been such fun, I think I want to do it again next year. I'm loving me some 50. I'm not sure Pam is loving it as much as I am.
So here are my theme verses for the week:
Psalm 71:8-9 & 14 - My mouth is filled with Your praise, declaring Your splendor all day long. Do not cast me away when I am old (because in today's aging system I'm only 40) do not forsake me when my strength is gone⦠I will always have hope; I will praise You more and more.
It just keeps getting better; because God is so good!

Now, I suppose everyone knows that I do not play golf, but I would certainly love to follow someone around...like a 50 year old Pastor I know, and do way too much photography on that course. What an amazing place to see God's creation at work...I'll bet He is still working on that 50 year old Pastor too...even with shooting a 91 or 81...or whatever that new scoring is. By the way, turning 50 was easy...now that I am almost 58, that is. The hard part is realizing that I thought my Dad was so very old when he was 50...Now that I am 58 it is not as old as it used to be...now that is an eye opener. I have found wisdom in the realization that my age is only relevant when I want the sales person to give me the Senior Discount. - Mike Brogdon
Just wait. The aging system becomes much more difficult between 50 and 60. Don't try the memory method. That becomes a waste of time after 50, or is it the new 60.
I look forward to being 50.
