Pam and I were able to enjoy a day of skiing during the Christmas break. The weather was beautiful. Lake Tahoe was stunning from the top of the mountain. It was a fun filled day.
We hadn’t been skiing in a while so you always wonder if you’re going to pick up where you left off. I did. Sliding down the mountain face first. There’s nothing like skiing and moisturizing your face at the same time.
What I forgot was that a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a bottle of water cost $18 on the ski slopes. MMM MMM Good!
We had to rent skis because our ski equipment went obsolete right after the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. Standing in line to rent skis is always fun. It’s usually warm in the ski rental line and of course, we’re dressed for an Antarctic blizzard. There’s nothing like getting all sweaty right before you ski. I like the part when they ask you for your I.D. The one that's in your wallet. Your wallet that's hidden under ski pants, tucked away somewhere that is not easy to get to. Finding my wallet was an aerobic exercise. We didn't need to stretch before we skied because I had to find my wallet in ski rental line.
I praise God that we didn’t have any chair lift incidents. Well, Pam did lose her pole on the chair lift and we had to go fetch it. But we didn't fall of the lift and lose our pants! Did you see the picture of that poor guy hanging upside down on the chair lift? His pants caught on the lift as he was falling and there he was hanging upside down, exposed. (I would have included the picture in this blog but it would have given it an R rating). When I saw that I thought, “That’s why we wear extra underwear when we ski.”
We really enjoyed a couple of days away with our family. All the kids were together again and it was a lot of fun.
Every time I go to Tahoe I stand in awe of God’s creative ability. Like the Psalmist said, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1). What a great God we serve. He made the lakes, mountains, trees, the snow…for us to enjoy. All of these blessings from God should remind us to thank Him.
So look around you this week and enjoy what God has made. And as you do, thank Him and worship Him. When I am grateful to God it makes it easier to eat an $18 bowl of soup!
